Lake District Trip 2019 – Day 1 – Grisedale Valley

The first day of our Lake District holiday! After our fantastic trip in August 2019, in which the idea of Peak by Dan Mears was born, we were keen to tackle some of our favourite mountains and try some new challenges too. Equally, on this trip I was keen to start my Lake District Print Collection, so lots of time ahead of our trip was spent scouting locations, routes and views I was keen to capture.

We arrived in Patterdale at lunchtime, having travelled from South Yorkshire, and were keen to grab some lunch and get a short hike in before dinner. We really love the area around Patterdale, so decided a valley walk would fit the bill! Keen to capture some great views and light, we decided to have a walk up Grisedale Valley, taking in the views of Grisedale Brow, Striding Edge, Dollywaggon Pike and Nethermost Pike.

The weather was fantastic, with that beautiful afternoon light illuminating the fells. We continued to walk further into the Grisedale Valley following the brick wall. I captured these images of Grisedale Brow, one of the assents up to Helvellyn via Hole in the Wall and Striding Edge.

As we ventured further into the valley, the sun began to get lower and the view of Striding Edge came into view.

As we came around the brow, the view of Dollywaggon Pike, High Crag and Nethermost Pike appeared. The sun had now gone down behind the fells, resulting in a beautifully illuminated sky behind Nethermost Pike.

It was a very inspiring afternoon walk in which I captured some images I am really proud of. It really set us up for the rest of the week we had in the Lake District.

All the images above are available as high quality prints for you to enjoy in your home from my Lake District Print Collection.
