An Autumnal Visit to the Peak District – Shoot

It has been a while since I was last out with my camera and I had oodles of creativity built up! I was keen to capture the autumnal views of the Peak District before the leaves had completely fallen off the trees! I’d decided that some woodland would prove a great place to start so decided to set off on a day’s trip to the Peak District, starting at Padley Gorge.

I arrived just after sunrise and saw the light was a way off hitting the gorge so decided instead to head up onto the Longshaw Estate where the sun was bursting through the trees!

Throughly please with what I had captured up on the Longshaw Estate I made my way down to Padley Gorge as the light started to make its way down!

The sun was getting high in the sky so I decided to take a break and have a coffee before continuing later in the afternoon, once the light was a little more flattering. I decided to head up to the other side of the Longshaw Estate, grab a coffee and take a short walk around the estate. I managed to grab this image of the ‘pretty path’ up to White Edge. I’ve walked this path so many times yet have never seen it this colourful before!

Time was ticking on an I wanted to take a look at a new location to me, Bole Hill Quarry, before heading up to another new location, Millstone Edge for sunset.

I didn’t quite make it to Bole Hill as I got a little distracted while walking through Lawrence Field. It’s such a beautiful place, with trees growing off the edges like I’ve never seen before!

Once I had taken this image the light had gone due to some cloud cover however, I managed to have a good walk around and will be sure to visit again soon in more favourable conditions!

Finally, I made my way up onto Millstone Edge from the Surprise View car park. The cloud still persisted but as they say ‘you’ve got to be in it to win it!’. I found a really interesting spot with a boulder over looking the Hope Valley with The Great Ridge, Mam Tor and Win Hill in the distance and sat it out! The wait really paid off with the image I captured below.

A throughly enjoyable day out the in Peaks capturing the Autumnal views of the Peak District! My photographic trips usually involve setting off to a single location for sunset or sunrise, so this was a new process for me and one which I am sure I’ll be doing again!

I hope you’ve enjoyed taking a look at the images I captured, all of which are available as high quality prints for your own home in my Peak District Print Collection
